This blend is 85% Tall Fescue and 15% Kentucky Bluegrass. Essentially the same thing I have in my front yard. I started with 100% GCI Turf Type Tall Fescue and have since oversewed for two years with Kentucky Bluegrass. This is a fantastic blend.

How long does grass seed stay good?
About 2 years if kept dry
We look for three basic things when choosing the varieties that go in our grass seed mixes/blends. It must be readily available to us, it must have an excellent history in the NTEP trials (National Turf grass Evaluation Program), and it must be affordable.
THOR: (Tall fescue) Top rated variety due to its excellent color, density, green up, and disease resistance. Thor has shown resistance to Brown Patch and Pythium Blight. Thor has exceptional dark green color, rated high in genetic and winter color. Aggressive tillering and excellent spring greenup makes it a great application for home lawns, parks, sod production, sports fields and commercial properties
BLACK TAIL: (Tall fescue) This variety provides superior density throughout the growing season in all parts of the US due to its aggressive tillering ability which also helps repair damaged areas of turf. Black Tail is a solid overall performer in traffic stress trials, fine leaf texture, and brown patch resistance. Black Tail aggressive tillering characteristic contributes to its dense, lush canopy.
FALCON IV: (Tall fescue) Falcon IV is a new and improved, heat and disease resistant, tall fescue variety developed for superior turf quality across a wide area of adaptation. It is dark green in color, fine textured with excellent wear tolerance. Falcon IV exhibits a unique combination of traits including dense growth, improved turf quality and resistance to brown patch. Falcon IV is an endophyte enhanced tall fescue.
BLUE COAT: (KBG) A unique Kentucky Bluegrass cultivar that produces a dense, fine leaf turf with dark green color and superior disease resistance. It also provides a dark green color, fine to medium leaf texture and excellent density during the growing season. Can handle heavy traffic. Blue Coat mixes well with other Kentucky Bluegrass, Perennial ryegrass, fine fescue and tall fescue
When should you plant Cool Blue TTTF/KBG?
Fall is a great time to seed Cool Blue TTTF/KBG. Plant Cool Blue TTTF/KBG seed when soil temperatures are between 50° and 65°F. Your air temperature should be around 60° to 75°at this time. The fescue in Cool Blue TTTF/KBG seed will take anywhere from 4 - 10 days to germinate. The KBG seed will need more time to germinate because it takes anywhere from 14-30 days to germinate. Mid August - Mid October is a great time frame depending on where you live in the country and what your soil and air temperatures are. Patience is required while waiting on KBG to sprout. Don’t get consumed by waiting on the KBG...it will come. I only recommend spring time seeding when absolutely necessary.
How much seed to use?
- Overseeding into an existing poor lawn: Six - eight (6-8) pounds per 1000 square feet.
- Overseeding into an existing nice lawn: Three - six (3-6) pounds per 1000 square feet.
- Seeding bare ground: Eight - ten (8 -10) pounds per 1000 square feet.
Germination...
The trick to seed germination is KEEP THE SEED MOIST! Water multiple times a day, light and frequently every day to ensure the ground and seed stays moist. Cool Blue TTTF/KBG seed can take anywhere from 4 to 10 days to germinate depending on environmental conditions. Be patient...it will come up with time. Once you have germination you can slowly revert back to watering 1” per week...deep and infrequent. During hot, dry weather established Cool Blue TTTF/KBG may need as much as 1.5” - 2” of water per week.
